Katie Spotz, a 22 year old college student, made history three years ago when she became the youngest person to row across the Atlantic on a solo adventure. It’s ironic, because if you ask Katie, she’ll be the first to admit she was the worst on her rowing team. Her life is dotted with several noteworthy firsts, including swimming the whole length of the 325-mile Allegheny River, and being the first person in her age category to complete the Half Ironman Triathlon. Other feats consist of a grueling 150 mile run across the Mojave and Colorado deserts, solo, and completing a 62 mile ultra marathon in Melbourne, Australia.
Today, we have a video with the news coverage of her historic journey to row across the Atlantic. This inspiring landmark event was fraught with danger, and there was trouble aplenty along the way, but nothing could stop this inspired young athlete from reaching her goal. She’s an inspiration to rowers all around the world now, a celebrity in her own right, and we can only expect more achievements in the future.
